Our Autism Class opened in September 2025. It provides a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment for autistic pupils who benefit from a quieter and more hands on approach to learning. The Autism Class iis a Department of Education recognised class for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism who have complex learning needs. The class operates as part of the wider school community, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, individual strengths and wellbeing.
The Autism Class supports pupils who benefit from a smaller class setting and a highly structured learning environment. Teaching and learning are guided by each child’s individual needs and abilities.
Pupils in the Autism Class are included in mainstream school life where appropriate, including shared activities, integration opportunities and school events, in line with individual needs.
Enrolment in the Autism Class follows national guidelines set by the Department of Education and the NCSE.Parents must first engage with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and submit a Notification of Need for a special class placement. This includes professional reports confirming a diagnosis of autism and recommending a special class setting.Once NCSE documentation is in place, parents apply directly to the school by completing the school’s enrolment application and submitting all required reports. Applications are considered in line with the school’s Admissions Policy and subject to available places and staffing.Parents are encouraged to begin the NCSE process early, as documentation is required before an application can be considered. Our Autism Class is currenlty full.
